RAINDROP WINERY

A red hill doesn’t touch everyone’s heart as it touches mine, ...Our
wasteland I think our most beautiful country.
— Georgia O’Keefe

To take advantage of the harsh diurnal swing of West Texas the Raindrop Winery, proposed to be built in the Pecos Valley of WestTexas, uses a raindrop in the sand as its parti. The raindrop falls making a small crater in the sand. The facility lays low to merge with the landscape. The sloped walls echo the plateaus beyond. Intended to be a place from which to experience the land, the winery house uses site cast concrete, adobe, and stone so that the building can age with a graceful patina over time. The colors reflect the warm grays of West Texas with an occasional “punch” of wildflower red and purple.
